St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church
Christian Education

St. John's has a series of Bible Study sessions - two of them are small groups that meet weekly and we also offer a series of seasonal studies during Lent and Advent.

The most comprehensive programme that our parish has participated in is the Education for Ministry (EFM).  This is a 4-year study programme created by the Episcopal School at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.  EFM is an accredited programme that involves the study of scripture, theology, church history and the development of one's own faith.

St. John's has lead and hosted retreats for the past 10 years.  Most significant of these has been our Women's Silent Retreat that is offered annually in late summer.  View Women's Silent Retreat Registration form for the 2009 retreat at the Bethlehem Retreat Centre in Nanaimo.  The Parish has a centering prayer group that meets Monday evenings called Sounds of Silence which maintains a long-term consistent development of spirituality normally associated with retreat experience.  Also offered is a Scripture Prayer, Centering Prayer programme on Friday mornings 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Our Lenten Study programme this year is the DVD-based First Light programme.

Over the years we have welcomed many students from the Vancouver School of Theology.  Our most recent student, Janice Lowell has participated in all aspects of worship, ministries and outreach projects.  Janice was stationed in Belize on a practicum mission last year and kept us updated with her progress and adventures.  Please enjoy her Spring Message and her Summer Message from Belize.
