My name is Gillian and I am the co-ordinator for the services we hold at Evergreen House, the Care Home just behind Lions Gate Hospital.
We meet there on the second Sunday of every month, spreading the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Our service is short, lasting just over half an hour, from 4 pm to just when the dinners arrive between 4:30 and 5 pm.
We are so lucky to have a wonderful pianist leading us on the piano. We all have the words to sing but it certainly makes a difference not to sing a cappella.
We follow the Anglican traditions in our service, singing familiar hymns from Sunday school and other well known favourites. Those like Onward Christian Soldiers, rousting us and preparing us for the following week, and the seniors version of Jesus Loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so, giving us all a work out too with actions.
I am very grateful to my little band of soldiers from St. John’s already helping on our special Sunday, but we are always looking for new recruits, anyone who would like to come and help with the handing out of hymn books or wheeling residents from other floors. We also have an opportunity to help with the reading of the Gospel and prayers. Involvement is a wonderful thing and certainly gives a joyful feeling, doing something for the Lord’s ministry and giving something back from His bounty of blessings.
As I say at the beginning of the service, it is both a pleasure and a privilege to be with everyone at Evergreen House. It is a pleasure and a privilege for me to spread the Good News of God’s Love and I encourage everyone to come by and enjoy that same feeling. Please circle the second Sunday of each month. Looking forward to seeing you there. God bless.
