I hope this email finds all of you and all of your loved ones well and safe.

I write to inform you of St. John’s North Vancouver’s decision regarding the planned reopening on June 14.  Our Parish Council met on Saturday, May 23 to discuss this, amongst other items.  It was a lengthy, and at times a tough discussion, but in the end, we decided to postpone our reopening for in-person worship until Sunday, September 6, 2020.  We will assess at the end of the summer if this date is still appropriate for us to proceed.  The vote was unanimous and I believe we have made the right decision for our Parish.

There were many factors involved of course, but chief among them was that a large majority of our parishioners fall within the vulnerable population and, despite our very best efforts in following the Diocesan Protocols, we could not guarantee 100% that all would be safe.  We also felt what we are doing now, while not the same as in-person worship, seems to be working quite well.

To that end, I would also like to inform you all that we will continue indefinitely our recorded Sunday Services, our Monday to Friday Zoom Morning Prayer, our Zoom Tea and Coffee Fellowship every Sunday at 11:00am and our Telephone ministry.  For our few parishioners who do not have access to social media, we are mailing out our weekly service bulletin to them as well as a hard text of my sermons.  They too, of course, are also receiving calls from our Telephone ministry.  We are also in the process of a major facelift to our Facebook page.  We hope to unveil that to you soon.

This decision was announced at our last Sunday Tea and Coffee Fellowship the early reaction from some has been quite positive.  A few parishioners have since said they wanted to come back in June, but were frankly quite anxious about doing so.  I am very interested in hearing from you about our decision and how we are proceeding.  Please feel more than free to email or call me.  How you are doing and what you think about this is very important to me, so please do be in touch.  Thank you.

If you would like to be involved in our recorded Service by recording yourself doing a reading from the bulletin, please do let me know that as well.

Again, if you require any more information regarding what we are doing, please do let me know.  As always, my prayers are with you and all your loved ones.  I thank you for your time and consideration.

Be courageous, be strong, be safe, and please know we will get through this together.

May God’s love and joy and light be with you all.

Peace, The Reverend Patrick Blaney
