Did you know that celebrations or feasts of Thanksgiving in the Anglican Church of England go back at least to the mid-16th century? As settlers travelled across the oceans to colonize North America, the church services of Harvest Thanksgiving came with them.

One very important Harvest Thanksgiving tradition at St. John's Church is to collect donations for the food bank at the Harvest Project. Your donation of canned goods, boxed food, or cash can make a big impact on the lives of people in need.

According to our friends at the Harvest Project, these are the most needed items in 2025:

  • Canned Fruit and Fruit Cups
  • Jams & Spreads (No Peanut Butter)
  • Cookies, Crackers
  • Coffee (1-lb pack ground)
  • Flour, Sugar, Salt, Pepper (All 1-2lb packs maximum)
  • Oil, Vinegar (500ml)
  • Soup Broth / Bouillon
  • Rice (1-lb bags)
  • Shampoo / Conditioner
  • Toilet Paper
  • Feminine Hygiene Products
  • Dish Soap
  • Laundry Soap
  • Dishwasher Soap

We ask you please to only bring in new items, not expired or close-to-expiry food.

Cash donations are also gratefully accepted - if you prefer to write a cheque, ensure it is made out to The Harvest Project.
