Two days ago, powerful back-to-back earthquakes shook Venezuela, with magnitudes beyond what has been seen in more than a century. The devastation has been extensive, with at least 589 people killed and nearly 3,000 injured, according to Al Jazeera. More than 50,000 people are missing, with many trapped under heavy concrete and collapsed buildings.
Alongside Hope is responding to this emergency. One way is through the Humanitarian Coalition appeal running until July 13, 2026. (The Humanitarian Coalition comprises 12 leading Canadian aid agencies including the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, of which Alongside Hope is a member.) Alongside Hope is also in regular contact with the ACT Alliance, the Anglican Alliance and other partners who are assessing the situation and designing their response plans.
