 Easter Letter, 2022

Dear St. John’s parishioners,

From the Gospel of John we hear Jesus say this, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid”.  As we end our Lenten journey and enter Holy Week let us remember and hold steadfastly in our hearts and minds the gift Jesus leaves with us, the gift Jesus gives to us - his peace.  Over the past two years we as a community have been both separated and connected; separated by the protocols of the pandemic and connected by modern technology.  It has been a challenging time, but ever-present has been God’s peace.  In our times of trouble God has been there to calm our hearts.  In our fears God has been there to give us the peace we need to persevere as best we can and even to thrive.

As we enter Holy Week and move towards Easter we can expect even more from God.  As the tomb opens in the dark hours of the early morning we can expect the miracle of God’s light, God’s joy and God’s unfailing love.  I am also so very pleased to announce that starting on Palm Sunday we will be back at full communion, distributing both bread and wine.  Easter Sunday will also bring our first in-person baptism in two years!  My dear sisters and brothers in Christ it is indeed a time to celebrate.  It is a time to be together again and worship the miracle of Easter.  It is a time to come back to the church and be in fellowship with each other.  Easter has been happening for two thousand years, and every year from that one to this one the light of Christ is renewed within us.  My Easter prayer is that we all be together once more in community and in communion and take Holy pleasure in the risen Christ.  I look forward to welcoming you at the door this Easter.

Yours in Christ, the Reverend Patrick Blaney
